Television viewership in India has increased by 40 percent compared to the pre-Covid-19 era, as more people are staying at home due to the lockdown, which has increased the percentage. This information came from a report released on Thursday.
According to the latest report from TV audience monitoring agency BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) and data measurement firm Nielsen in the week starting April 11, the number of people watching TV has increased by 48 percent on all the seven days.
The study took time from January 13 to February 2 before the period of Covid-19.
According to the report, the largest viewership of TV viewers has increased in big cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
The results showed that, urban markets saw an increase in audiences in the age group of 15 to 21.
The report says that, people in the age group of 15-21 account for 16 percent of the TV viewership in India.
In Mumbai and Delhi, where Covid-19 infection cases are the highest in the country, news consumption on TV has increased by 251 percent and 177 percent respectively.
